Lizzy & Ian

Brinkburn Priory | May 2022

For these two lovebirds there could have been just the two of them all day and we reckon they’d have been just as full of joy! Two gorgeously content souls who know that as long as they’re side by side they’ll always be happy. Their whole day had a ‘Secret Garden’ feel with a colour palette of rich oranges with touches of reds and pink - we loved it!

Lizzy & Ian chose Brinkburn Priory for their nuptials and we’re so glad that they did! It was our first time there, after drooling over the place on Instagram for a while! You can’t see the building from the roadside, you have to keep going down the winding drive until the trees open up and you finally see the priory itself. And what a sight it is! It was built in the 12th century by monks who obviously knew a good spot when they saw one. Situated on the river Coquet, the whole place feels calm and magical at the same time - you could say bliss!

After ogling the enchanting scenery for a bit (one of our favourite morning activities) we made our way to the stable block. A grade-2 listed building that has been gorgeously renovated into a perfect place to spend the morning of your wedding. We were lucky enough to be visiting when the wisteria was in full bloom - it looked glorious.

We headed on in to see Lizzy and her entourage - everyone was so chill! The atmosphere was lush with champagne, pastries and lots of pampering. Lizzy chose an off the shoulder satin gown, a flower crown, a chapel length veil and DREAMY green velvet shoes. Lizzy’s whole look was a romantic and fresh take on the ‘British-countryside-bride’ look.

Ian really tapped into the chilled countryside feeling of the whole day with his [colour, fabric] suit paired with a grey waistcoat underneath finished off with a maroon [change this] tie - all clean lines and classic tonal colours.

Both Lizzy & Ian had written cards to each other and we got to capture them reading them aloud. We absolutely LOVE it when our couples read their cards or letters out! We wholeheartedly encourage it! It gives us extra choice with audio for our films, but also and definitely more importantly, it’s such a tender moment opening and reading a letter or a card that the person you’re about to marry has written to you.

After an emotional first look with her dad, Lizzy was ready to walk down the aisle. And what an aisle walk it was! The priory itself is breath-taking and when Lizzy walked down the aisle, arm in arm with a very proud father of the bride, it looked like an actual fairy tale! We’re not sure if it was the magnificent architecture, Lizzy’s fantastic mane of curls, the flower crown or the choir that did it, but woah - what an entrance!

After a touching ceremony and lots of lush orange-hued confetti in front of Lizzy & Ian’s pride and joy, “Scooby”, their VW camper van, the heavens opened! Brinkburn Priory has a covered walkway and the ‘White Room’ where everyone could stay dry. The personalised cocktails went down a treat and before we knew it the sun was back out again.

Lizzy & Ian both looked glorious in the dramatic light in the priory and then we took advantage of the bright skies and whisked Lizzy & Ian off to a secluded pathway that winds through the woodlands alongside the river. It felt like we were in the Shire* - it was so peaceful and serene.

We then all headed back to the beautifully dressed tipi to hear the speeches. Lizzy designed the cartography table names, representing the places that they have visited - they looked soo good! The amazing stationery combined with the hanging floral displays and the wildflower seeds as favours was a modern, chic and very in keeping with the 'British countryside wedding' feeling of the day.

As the sun was setting the band set up in the ‘White Room’ while everyone was mingling outside soaking up the last rays of light. Lizzy & Ian had their first dance and the band got the party going! What’s great about Brinkburn Priory is that there’s room for guests to spill out from the dancing into different areas; there’s something for everyone! There were people tearing up the dancefloor, lots of chatting by the indoor fire in the tipi and marshmallows being toasted on the fires outdoors. Everyone was comfortable, relaxed and happy - the perfect summer garden party to celebrate Lizzy & Ian getting hitched!

It was lovely to meet and work alongside David West and his daughter, Paige, for the first time!

Charlotte’s favourite moment from this film: Lizzy walking down the aisle - it’s always a beautiful moment, but for some reason this one in particular felt like a fairy tale

Craig’s favourite moment from this film: the choir added an ethereal quality to the ceremony, what better way to take advantage of the acoustics in the priory than a choir??
